Take-Two Announces GTA VI Pre-Orders and November 19 Release Date

① Take-Two announced that GTA VI will open pre-orders and is scheduled for release on November 19. The market expects it to become the largest entertainment product launch in history, with the pre-order phase potentially surpassing the industry record set by its predecessor and maintained for 13 years.
② Of greater interest is that the standard edition of the game is priced at USD 79.99, further strengthening the pricing power and commercial imagination of top-tier AAA titles.

June 25 — As a key theme in the global cultural media market in 2026, U.S.-based Take-Two Interactive Software announced on Wednesday that pre-orders for GTA VI (Grand Theft Auto VI) will begin at midnight local time on Thursday.

The game is currently scheduled for official release on November 19. As a result, the global gaming and cultural entertainment industry has already cleared its November schedule to avoid direct competition with a potentially top-tier cultural product in 2026.

As background, the previous title in the series, GTA V, was released in 2013. At that time, sales exceeded USD 1 billion within just three days of launch, making it the fastest cultural product ever to surpass USD 1 billion in sales. Even more striking, the game continued to sell strongly over the following decade, with total sales exceeding 230 million copies.

The game’s lifecycle even spanned three generations of game consoles from Sony and Microsoft, with total revenue reportedly exceeding USD 10 billion.

Analysts currently predict that, based on the massive installed base of its predecessor, GTA VI is highly likely to break the record set by its predecessor during the pre-order phase.

Piers Harding-Rolls, a gaming industry analyst at data firm Ampere Analysis, said: “The full launch, including pre-orders, will become the largest entertainment release ever… bigger than any film, TV series, concert, or album.”

Investment bank Piper Sandler said in a recent report that it expects 45 million copies may be sold during the pre-order period before the game’s release.

Multiple reports indicate that the development cost of GTA VI is between USD 1 billion and USD 2 billion, making it the most expensive entertainment product ever produced.

As a benchmark product in the gaming industry, the release of GTA VI will also set an industry precedent.

First, GTA VI’s price has increased to USD 79.99, pushing the ceiling for top-tier game pricing from USD 70 to USD 80. This means that more top-tier games may seek to launch at USD 80 in the future. When GTA V was released in 2013, the standard edition was priced at USD 59.

99 US dollars.

Joost van Dreunen, a professor at New York University’s Stern School of Business, interpreted that this pricing is unlikely to affect sales volume, because “in the face of player anticipation, 80 dollars is merely a rounding error.”

He also added that this price may set a new pricing benchmark for AAA blockbusters lacking substitutes, but it is unlikely to apply to mid-tier publishers. He said: “GTA VI will not drive up prices for all games, but will further widen the gap between leading companies and non-leading companies.”

Another point of difference from the previous installment is that the online mode, often described as a money-printing machine, may have different commercial arrangements in GTA VI. Take-Two Interactive Software specifically emphasized in the announcement that what players get for 80 dollars is a single-player experience.

Bank of America said in a research report released this week that it expects annual revenue from GTA VI’s online mode to potentially reach 2.2 billion US dollars in the company’s fiscal year 2028 beginning in April next year, an increase of 900 million US dollars from its previous estimate. The underlying assumption is that each monthly active user contributes an average of 60 US dollars per year, compared with the previous expectation of 35 US dollars.

Bank of America set a target price of 368 US dollars for Take-Two Interactive Entertainment, maintaining a Buy rating, implying 50% upside from the company’s current stock price.
